Falling for it...

Fall is finally here...
really feeling for the following:

Opening Ceremony X Deyrolle scarves.. (from FNO, i'm a bit late here sowhatwhocares)
do you not know about the Deyrolle? (pics from OC blog)

Karvt iphone 4 covers make your hi-tech look logger tech.
And for only $25, well, duh.

Every fall finds me searching Marcel Dzama...
something so folky and fallsy about his sketches/ ink drawings...
it looks like apple cider tastes. For me anyway.

Then there's Kate Bellm...  stumbled upon her tumblr recently and was instantly in love with her work.

Early fall soundtrack: Lync - these are not fall colors... I think it's c.1994...
I was in highschool then (whoa) but it totally brings me back in a sepia-tone-nostalgia-kinda-way.

Happy Birthday, John!

"I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"
-John Lennon"

Today would have been John Lennon's 70th.
Intellectual, musician, social activist, artist, man of style, etc. etc.
Always an inspiration..his creativity, his mind it seems knew no bounds...

My favorite photos from a gallery on lastfm.com...

Summer's over...

Finally hopefully able to get back to a more regular posting schedge.
We shall see, tho as i am queen of the flakes.
In no particular order, things I'm currently digging...
from top:
-pyramids, strings... from some random searching and link-clicking...
-the breathtakingly beautiful collage work of Seiko Kato. All of her stuff is amazing, btw. Cues taken from victorian collage, yet unmistakably modern and right-now.
-the crazy harlequin-checker minx mani's at Alice and Olivia (R29 or Elle photo, I forget)...
-one of a kind, handmade arrows from Fredericks and Mae, read about them here..

If you are in NYC... Brooklyn especially, do check out SEENOEVILSEENOEVIL SEE EVIL...
It's up till 24th October...

Currently on repeat: Twin Shadow... The guy is smooth...get into it.

And step on it...

I know fuckall about guitar pedals... but just been nerding out recently at how amazingly cool they look..
I will probably end up on Hoarders one day due to my love of collecting/keeping stacks and stacks of shit I don't need, this seems a likely next step...

some of my absolute favorite musicians have the most ridiculous setups...
Kevin Shields/MBV
David Byrne
Ed Droste/Grizzly Bear
(who btw gets bonus points for juxtaposition of small dog and gear)

..and J Mascis...who actually surprised me.  I would've expected a shit-ton of gear at his feet,  cause he's fucking Gandalf for guitars.. but well, just shows how little I know about anything.
**as per usual - none of these are my pics. David Byrne photo via miniboners, and the rest from miscellaneous guit-nerd gear forums.

Sticker Shock...

Was doing my daily blog crawl and stumbled on the work
of Payton Cosell Turner. Blew my little mind.
As somebody whose childhood treat for good behavior
was a pack of stickers*...This just hit me straight in the heart.
*(An obsession which continued through later life with a massive skate sticker collection,
then band stickers, and now, not ashamed to admit - f*cking Post-it's even!!!I need major help)
From faraway her "wallpaper" looks like baroque or rococo florals..
(the artist on the right)
Then, zoom into that and see the real magic? Do you see do you see???
Also  - her illustrations and illustrated wallpaper are great too.
Sort-of naive, and kinda reminiscent of the doodles in the covers of Wes Anderson DVD's.
If my walls weren't brick, or already covered with too much stuff (story of my life)... I'd commission her in a heartbeat.

*all photos from thecut and the artist's own website. Links above*

Gypsies...

Latest obsession: Gypsy houses.
So f*cking rad. Crazy interiors, batshit crazy exteriors.
I need to see these in person. And perhaps do a little redecorating in
the ol' apartment...
Images culled from various spots on the www....
And let's not forget the exteriors, eh???
happy weekending!

practicality...

as promised... excerpts from the Webster's Practical Illustrated Dictionary, 1942 edition. Still trying to sort out what's so practical about a dictionary with only 378 pages... surely there are words left out. Maybe they left the important ones only? Practical indeed.

Anyways... after a quick thumb-through, i realized they have chosen only to illustrate some key items... photo'd my faves. (Any non-slouch would've scanned but guess what - i'm lazy).

Hyena and ibex on the same page? You couldn't ask for more...

Brilliancy you say?

Sh*t photo, but know that i am a sucker for  a great bird illustration.

Yep... and a unicorn!!!

I haven't even gotten to the military and naval terms, though i saw a sweet page of illustrated boats and battleships... <3

the constitution state...

Spent this past weekend in CT... which i know precious little about, even though it's so close to NYC... anyway Saturday found us at a gorgeous wedding for two lovely loves...
Sunday, rather than rush back to the bustle of Brooklyn, we decided instead to hit up several antique shops... attempted burgers at Louis Lunch (foiled - not open on Sundays!!! totally bummed)
My chances at being on Hoarders are increasing daily...
Not pictured - an amazing boy scout backpack dating at least to the 50's (maybe older) and some random chandelier crystals that i am pretending i'll make something of...
Anyway, below, pics of the spoils.

feeding my unhealthy costume jewelry obsession...

Need you in my life...

OK... dunno what got me started but suddenly i am OBSESSING
over late 70's early 80's mopeds... WANT. Like SO BAD want.
Pretty strange for a girl who:
a. is the most clumsy person ever
b. is the opposite of coordinated
c. can't drive worth a damn
d. all of the above
but...
just the way they look... and imagining chugging
around the neighborhood at the slow speed of say, 15mph?
just divine.
